Miriam Defensor Santiago`s Worst Behavior on Ondoy Wake by Lynnks Pacheco

The worst that a Filipino legislator can do in a time of national crisis like the unparalleled devastation wrought by gale Ondoy is to tar and taint countries that are extraordinarily concerned in humanitarian missions for victim-countries. And impugn motive on what are pure and legitimized attempts to help such victims as the uncountable millions of Filipinos now reeling from the most heavy rains to hit Metro Manila and near by provinces in 40 years.

Such worst behavior was on full display from Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, ironically head of the Senate foreign affairs committee, who struck out at the much-needed relief and rescue efforts being manufactured by the united states in the aftermath of Ondoy huarenblog.

Even those who have been forgiving of Miriam for her previous senseless-if not lunatic-outbursts, her hysterias over nothing, are now appalled at the callous reaction of the senator to the US collusion in the relief and rescue efforts.

Did she not read what US envoy Kirstie Kenney declared : What we are trying to do is put ourselves at the disposal of the Red Cross.

The Red Cross is a non-partisan, non-political world relief agency whose white and red banner is a welcome presence in all uneasy and distressed spots of the world.

While the entire Defensor-Santiago family is probably comfortably whiling away through the Ondoy Apocalypse, US medical teams are working at evacuation centers csctrucks.

According to accounts, members of the third US marine Expeditionary Force are on a medical mission in the Ondoy-ravaged areas. In Marikina town alone, some a hundred GIs or Yank squaddies are attending to about one thousand patients a day.

two more US military units-31st sea Expeditionary Unit and the first marine Aircraft Wing, both stationed in Okinawa, Japan-will have arrived by this time, bringing with them heavy gear to help in the cleanup of the disaster areas. Such appliances include a bulldozer, 5 load wagons, 5 heavy transport autos and two heavy-lift helicopters.

And in the comfort of her home and office, Miriam is again casting motive where there is none, finding spooks and shadows where there`s only unalloyed humanitarian gesture.

Miriam, probably in fits of paranoia, sees dark conspiracies around her and views the VFA with strings attached, people see humanitarian gestures, pure motives, unsullied gestures galaxy screen shield.

Only somebody with a twisted mind will roar to the world that there is a vicious motive behind the US` gesture of help because it is, to her, a springboard for the North American troops who will help in the relief and rehabilitation work to remain in the Philippines for good.

To Miriam, the real motive behind the humanitarian mission of these US troops is so they could possibly go to Mindanao on the sly and mount an attack on the Abu Sayyaf to revenge the deaths of two American squaddies who were killed in a rebel-orchestrated bomb explosion in Sulu.

Whoa! What has the senator been drinking or smoking lately?

The patience of the general public over Miriam`s escapades is now wearing thin ootool. Help is urgency wanted to save and help lives and entire communities. Help is pouring in from many parts of the globe, from our overseas Filipino employees or OFWs, from cities and cities not influenced by Ondoy.

nobody casts motive on the help and assistance rendered by do-gooders, even if they`re foreigners or glad-handers. At about that point, Ondoy victims need all the help they can get.

the sole one grating voice, outwardly unmoved by the great human crisis around her, is Miriam.

The 2010 election will hopefully serve as Miriam`s day of reckoning. She has inflicted so much harm to trusting folks and institutions. The citizens in May should say`Enough` to her extremely damaging escapades.

much of the poison well in the country`s political discussions has been the work of Miriam Santiago. There should be a collective, conscious effort to reject her Senate run in 2010.

The supposed Interweb, the collection of cyber sites that document the follies of prominent folk should post the ranting of Miriam and use as background the death and annihilation of Ondoy.
